Privacy Policy
Best Rizz is a dating app. That means we hold things about you that are genuinely sensitive — your photos, roughly where you are, and who you're interested in. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, who else sees it, and what happens when you leave. We've tried to write it so you can actually read it.
1. Who we are
Best Rizz ("we", "us") operates the Best Rizz mobile application. You can reach us at privacy@bestrizz.com about anything on this page.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
| Account | Your phone number, or — if you use Sign in with Apple — the account identifier Apple gives us, plus the name and email address you choose to share with us at that moment. |
|---|---|
| Profile | Your first name, age, gender, who you're looking to meet, your bio, and your interests. |
| Photos | The photos you upload to your profile. |
| Messages | What you write to the people you match with. |
| Reports and appeals | What you tell us when you report someone, or when you appeal a decision about your account. |
Information collected as you use the app
| Location | Your approximate location, used to work out who is near you. We store coordinates and a coarse grid cell. We never show your exact location to anyone — other people only ever see a distance. |
|---|---|
| Activity | Who you liked, who you passed on, whose profile you've already been shown, and your matches. This is what makes the feed work and stops you seeing the same person forever. |
| Preferences | The maximum distance you're willing to travel. |
| Notifications | A device token, if you allow notifications, so we can send them. |
| Interest vectors | Two short numeric summaries the app maintains about you — one describing what you're like, one describing what you tend to go for. They're derived from your interests and updated as you like people. They are not shown to anyone and are not shared. |
What we do not collect
- We don't use advertising identifiers, ad networks, or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We don't collect your contacts, your calendar, your photo library beyond the images you deliberately pick, or your browsing outside the app.
- We don't buy information about you from data brokers.
3. Why we use it
- To run the service — showing you people nearby, letting you like them, opening conversations when it's mutual.
- To decide who to show you. Your feed is ordered by predicted mutual interest, distance, how recently someone was active, and a fairness adjustment that reduces a profile's ranking the more it has already been shown that day. There is no attractiveness scoring anywhere in the app.
- To keep people safe — screening photos, catching reused images, verifying identities, acting on reports, and suspending accounts that break the rules.
- To meet legal obligations, including reporting child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as US law requires.
4. Automated screening of photos
Every photo you upload is checked automatically before any other user can see it. Using Amazon Rekognition, we check for explicit content, estimate whether the person appears to be an adult, and confirm that your first photo shows a clearly visible face. We also compute a perceptual hash — a short fingerprint of the image — and compare it against other accounts, so the same photo can't be used on two profiles.
A photo that fails is rejected and never becomes visible. Repeated or severe failures can suspend an account. If you think a decision was wrong, tell us — a person will look.
5. Biometric information
This section describes the optional verification feature. Read it before you use that feature.
What happens
If you choose to get a verified badge, the app asks you to take a selfie performing a randomly chosen gesture. That image is compared against your primary profile photo using Amazon Rekognition's face comparison, which returns a similarity score.
What we keep
We do not store your face. The selfie is deleted from our storage the moment the check completes. We do not create, store, or maintain a face template, faceprint, or biometric identifier, and we do not keep a searchable collection of faces. The only thing retained is a single number — the similarity score — and the fact that you passed, along with the date.
If you start verification and abandon it, the unused selfie is deleted when you delete your account, and in any case is not used for anything else in the meantime.
The rules we hold ourselves to
- Purpose. Face comparison is used only to confirm that the person in the selfie is the person in the profile photo. It is never used to identify you against any other database, to infer anything about you, or for advertising.
- Consent. Verification is entirely optional. You are asked before the camera opens, and you can use Best Rizz fully without ever verifying.
- Retention. The selfie is destroyed immediately on completion of the check. We do not retain biometric data beyond that moment.
- No sale. We do not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from biometric information, and we never will.
- Disclosure. We do not disclose biometric information to anyone except the cloud provider performing the comparison on our behalf, and only for the duration of the comparison.
Age estimation on uploaded photos (§4) also analyses facial characteristics. It produces an estimated age range that is used once, to decide whether the photo is allowed. No template is stored there either.
6. Who else sees your information
Other users
Your first name, age, photos, bio and interests are visible to people your feed shows you, along with your distance from them — never your address or coordinates. Your phone number and email address are never shown to another user.
Service providers
| Amazon Web Services | Hosts everything and performs the photo and face analysis described above. Data is stored in the United States. |
|---|---|
| Apple | If you use Sign in with Apple, and to deliver push notifications. |
They act on our instructions. We don't have advertising partners, and we do not sell or share your personal information for advertising or cross-context behavioural advertising.
Legal and safety disclosures
We will disclose information where the law requires it, or where it's necessary to protect someone from harm. Specifically: material that appears to be child sexual abuse material is preserved and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, as US federal law requires. We will not delete such material on request, because we are not permitted to.
7. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Photos are stored privately and served through links that expire, so a URL that gets shared elsewhere stops working. Sessions use signed tokens. Moderator actions are written to an append-only audit log that even an administrator cannot rewrite. No system is perfect, and we won't claim ours is.
8. How long we keep things, and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app: You → Delete account. It works even while suspended. Deletion is immediate and is not reversible.
Deleted
Your profile; your photos and their image fingerprints; your likes, passes and the record of profiles you've seen; your blocks; your matches and every message in them; your notification token; the link between your account and your phone number or Apple ID; and any pending sign-in code. Your phone number becomes free to use for a new account.
Kept
Records that exist to protect other people, which one person's deletion request cannot be allowed to erase:
- reports filed about you, and reports you filed about others
- moderation incidents concerning your account
- the audit log of actions taken by our moderators
- anything already quarantined as part of a safety investigation
These records reference an account identifier that no longer resolves to a person. They document conduct, not identity. We think you're entitled to know that boundary exists rather than discovering it later.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, obtain a portable copy, or object to certain processing. Residents of some US states have specific rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them.
Deletion is built into the app and is the fastest route. For anything else, email privacy@bestrizz.com. We'll verify you're the account holder before acting — usually by asking you to write from the email on the account, or to confirm the phone number or Apple ID you signed up with.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of on that front.
10. Age
Best Rizz is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account, we screen uploaded photos for apparent minors, and a report that an account belongs to a minor suspends it immediately. If you believe a minor is using Best Rizz, email safety@bestrizz.com and we will act on it ahead of anything else.
11. International users
We operate in the United States and your information is stored and processed there. If you're using Best Rizz from elsewhere, you're sending your information to the US, where privacy law differs from your own country's.
12. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and we'll tell you in the app before anything that materially affects you takes effect.
